Age of the console table
The age of the console table is a very important factor in order to understand why its price is at the level it is. If a console table is two hundred years old, it can cost up to a small, or even a large, fortune. Of course, as with any of the factors I am going to examine, the age of a console table means nothing by itself. You need to consider everything together before you decide if the table is worth the price you are paying.
History of the console table
This is a also very important thing. A console table may seem worthless at first but, if you find out that it is attached to a certain history, its value can explode. Imagine being able to buy a table that was used by someone like Napoleon for planning his battles or by Leonardo da Vinci for working on his designs. Of course what I mentioned here would probably not be console tables but a console table can also be attached with history. It can come from a famous or historic person’s house for example and this definitely attaches value to it. Every household uses console tables so as you understand you will be able to find pieces that will have extraordinary stories attached to them.
Sentimental value of the console table
This part is a little tricky. Any console table can increase in value when consider the sentimental value that its owner attaches to it. My opinion is that you should probably stay away from such situations. It could cost a lot of money for no apparent reason. The owner’s sentimental value for the console table is something that has nothing to do with you or your collection. Of course on the other hand, it may be the case that a specific piece has sentimental value for some reason for you. In such a case, you have to decide how much you are willing to spend in order to make it yours. Whatever you decide to do, my opinion is that you always have to be careful before you make the purchase and you have to think twice.
As you understand, all of the above qualities of a console table are hard to understand if you don’t know enough about the specific piece of furniture. The only way to overcome this fact is to make some research in the console table you are planning on getting before you take any money out of your pocket.
