We live in a world where premium is placed on the price of any item. It doesn’t matter what category the items fall into, price is usually the first consideration. Automobiles, houses, wrist watches, jewelry, furniture … the list is endless. We are usually concerned about how expensive or how cheap we can get it.

Hey, I’ve not lost it! I know this is supposed to be about cheap desks, but hold on, I’m laying a foundation. A lot of times, people tend to equate the price of any item to its quality and similarly, a lot of times, they are usually wrong! There are some inherent factors other than the price that determines the quality of any item. So, is a cheap desk a bad desk?

To start with, I think we need to be on the same page when we are talking about cheap desks. I really don’t have an idea about what your definition of cheap is, so I’ll tell you what mine is. By a cheap desk, I’m referring to one that is able to carry out its functions adequately, lasts for a fairly long time without the need for frequent repairs, has good aesthetic appeal AND it’s affordable. Yeah, I know, it’s a long list. So were these the qualities you had in mind? Not really! I understand.

You are probably thinking now that those qualities are not attributable to a cheap desk, right? That a desk that has them is definitely going to be expensive. Well not necessarily. What has influenced that idea is because we live in a world where almost everything is overpriced. This shouldn’t be so but then, that’s the way things are.

A desk by the way is probably going to be used in your office or even at home, and I think I can confidently say that it’s going to be used a lot of times. Thus it has to be good. A cheap desk doesn’t make a bad desk. A desk could be bad regardless of the price. Thus you can have a cheap good desk and an expensive bad desk. You could also have a cheap bad desk and an expensive good desk …you get the idea?

So what determines the quality of a desk, giving rise to the classification as good or bad is really not the price. So don’t go about discarding that good desk because you think it’s “cheap”!
